Small projects, big autumn charm..
“With autumn in full swing, I’ve been curling up with a new sewing book that’s perfect for this season. If you’re looking for fresh ideas to stitch on cosy afternoons, here’s my honest review of Lynette Anderson’s Stitch It for Autumn…”
As the nights draw in and the leaves turn golden, I’ve been diving into a beautiful little book that captures the very essence of the season – Stitch It for Autumn by Lynette Anderson.
At just under 50 pages, it’s not a huge tome, but sometimes less really is more. This book is full of charming seasonal sewing projects, from small framed stitcheries and tea cosies to table centres, cushions, and even a quilt or two. There’s a lovely mix of quick makes and more detailed pieces, so whether you have an hour spare or a weekend to indulge, you’ll find something that suits.
What I love most about Lynette’s work is her whimsical style. Her autumn motifs, little hens, pumpkins, leaves, and cosy textures, are brought to life with warm, muted colours that feel just right for this time of year. The projects use simple stitches, applique, and piecing, so they’re accessible for confident beginners through to more experienced makers looking for something seasonal to enjoy.
Of course, being a smaller book, it doesn’t go into great depth on every technique. The instructions are clear, but a few extra step-by-step photos and more detailed explanations would have been helpful for beginners. That’s why I’ve given it 4 stars rather than 5. It’s beautiful and inspiring, but not as in-depth as some larger sewing books.
That said, the charm, variety, and seasonal feel more than make up for its brevity. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to gather your fabrics, light a candle, and spend a quiet afternoon stitching.
If you’re looking for inspiration to bring a touch of autumn into your home, or to make a heartfelt handmade gift, Stitch It for Autumn is a delightful choice. I’ve already earmarked the little framed hen stitchery as my first make!
My verdict: 4/5 stars – charming, seasonal, and just the right size for autumn sewing inspiration.
