There’s something extra special about sewing at this time of year; windows open, tea on the table, music playing, and a little pile of fabric treasures waiting to become something new.
This month, we’re celebrating The Joy of Scrappy Sewing . Those little leftovers that hold so many memories and so much potential. Whether it’s a quick mug mat for your tea break, a gentle new quilt design, or your favourite bag ready for summer adventures, there’s something here to inspire your next make.

Plus.....
🧵 I’ve written a new blog post , “The Joy of Scrappy Sewing”, diving into the beauty, sustainability, and heart behind using what we have. It’s all about letting go of perfection and embracing the stories stitched into our scraps. I’d love to know what you think.
🧸 And we have a fun "What Kind Of Sewing Animal Quiz" for you to take part in. Along with feedback on our recent Customer Survey.
I’ve also been reflecting on something I shared on Sewing Street last month,“Use & Ornament” by Nicholas Ball. It’s a beautiful reminder that we don’t need perfect conditions or brand-new supplies to make something meaningful. Often, the most heartfelt creations come from what we already have.
So pour a cuppa, settle in, and enjoy this month’s makes, musings, and a little moment of stitching happiness.
With love and scraps of joy,
Sandi xx

Mind Your Own Bees-niss!
Welcoming Bees to Our Gardens
As the garden wakes up for summer, it’s the perfect time to think about our tiny, hardworking friends, the bees!
Bees are vital for pollinating flowers, fruits, and vegetables, helping our gardens (and the world!) to thrive.
This year, I’m adding a bee hotel to our garden; a cozy little space where solitary bees can rest and nest.
It made me think about the flowers we can plant to make them feel truly at home.
Here are some bee friendly plants that are easy to grow and absolutely adored by our buzzing visitors:
• Lavender – Beautiful, fragrant, and irresistible to bees.
• Foxgloves – Tall, dramatic spires full of nectar.
• Alliums – Big, bold, and buzzing with bee activity!
• Flowering herbs (like thyme, mint, and rosemary) Let them bloom and watch the bees feast.
• Salvia – Vibrant, colourful, and long-flowering.
• Borage – A real “bee magnet” and lovely to scatter in beds.
• Wildflowers – Poppies, daisies, cornflowers, let a little wildness into your garden.
• Hellebores – Perfect for early season bees when food is scarce.
• Honeysuckle – A sweet smelling climber that bees adore.
• Simple single flowers – Open shapes are easier for bees to access than very frilly, double blooms.
Top Tip:
Plant a variety that flowers across different seasons, so bees always have a meal waiting for them, from early spring to late autumn.
A little water station (a shallow dish with pebbles) will help tired bees refresh too!
By planting a few thoughtful blooms and adding a safe place to nest, we can all do our bit to support the bees and in return, they’ll help our gardens flourish (and yes - it seems like it's not just the bees we look after in our garden).
Here’s to a garden full of flowers, memories, and the gentle hum of happy bees!

In Memory of Percy:
2010 - 2025
This week we said goodbye to Percy, our beloved family cat, faithful companion, and the quietly watchful Quality Controller of Family Comforts. Whether he was tucked beneath the cutting table or inspecting fabric stacks with a flick of his tail, Percy was always nearby - calm, curious, and full of character.
He was more than just part of the team; he was part of the heartbeat of our home. We’ll miss his gentle presence, his occasional editorial input (usually in the form of pawprints), and his comforting company during late-night sewing sessions.
Rest peacefully, Percy — you were dearly loved, and you’ll always be part of everything we make.

Happy crafting!

Consider this.....
May is a curious month, isn’t it? The sun starts behaving, the days stretch their arms, and everything in the garden begins to feel possible. It’s the perfect time to unearth that fabric you’ve been “saving” for something special — because, really, what are we waiting for?
Consider this: the Romans named May after the goddess Maia — associated with growth and nurturing. So perhaps it’s the ideal month to start something new at the sewing table, even if it’s just a wonky patch or a scrap-happy mug mat. After all, even the messiest pile of fabric can turn into something worth warming your teacup on.
Ted's Going Walking!
We’re packing our bags — and our bears! This June, we’re kicking off Ted Walks, our new travel-inspired series where our well-dressed teddies join us on the road. Expect tales from the South of France and beyond, full of creative sparks, stitching inspiration, and a bear’s-eye view of the world.
Just to note that we won't be doing our newsletter in June. Watch out instead for our Ted Walks Journal weekly.
