It was only in January 2022 when an advert caught my eye in a Newsletter Letter from Sewing Street they were running a competition called ‘Search for a Star’. Since I had been sewing, knitting, and crafting since the age of four I felt I could be in with a chance.
With a lot of encouragement from my family and a degree of self-trepidation I decided that I would at least give it my best shot. So my husband videoed me in a three minute required self intro and a sewing technique of my choice.
To my utter amazement an email pinged into my in box a few weeks later saying they liked my video and would I like to go to the studios in Redditch for the semi-finals. I would have to demonstrate a lovely ‘Amber Makes’ bag panel pattern, it was a pigeon carrier bag!
Although I was very nervous on arrival all the production team along with Rebecca Reid (Becs), who was the presenter that day, really made me feel welcome and put me at my ease.
I soon found out that I had made it to the finals along with four other contestants where we each had to do a one hour live show with the brilliant John Scott. This is where my nerves really kicked in and realised I was out of my comfort zone! My brief for this was to demonstrate a lovely Debbie Shaw cork bag. The hour show flew past and that was all due to John’s expert guidance throughout the demonstration. All I had to do afterwards was to wait for the Sewing Street viewers to vote.
The result show was over the Easter holiday and with eager anticipation we watched as they announced the lovely Emily Roberts as the winner.
Later, I was lucky enough to be asked back onto the show as I had been one of the runners up.
My first show as a guest demonstrator was in July of that year and since then I have been fortunate enough to have been asked back several times since and am now demonstrating my own patterns.
I have learnt so much in the short time I have been on Sewing Street and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with four great presenters, Rebecca Reid, Vicki Carroll, Stuart Hillard and John Scott. Thank you all for your patience and support.
Being on Sewing Street is like being part of one big family who are passionate about all things sewing and having fun and laughter.
I think some of these photos demonstrate this.
A big THANK YOU also to all the amazing Sewing Street fans, we couldn’t do what we do without your loyal support.
If you want to see me next on Sewing Street where I will be bringing along two of my latest patterns, be sure to tune in on Thursday 27th April at 9am and 11am, Sky 670, Freeview 73 and YouTube@SewingStreet
